COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Fourteen athletes recognized as top 18-and-under swimmers from across the nation will represent USA Swimming this fall at FINA World Cup events in Doha and Dubai.
Michael Brooks of York YMCA will serve as head coach for the team, with Cindy Dial of Firestone Akron Swim Team traveling as the assistant coach. Jeri Marsburn of Irvine Novaquatics will be the team manager.
The women’s roster includes National Team members Courtney Harnish (York, Pa./ York YMCA) and Meghan Small (Lineboro, Md./York YMCA), as well as four members of the National Junior Team led by Cassidy Bayer (Alexandria, Va./Nation’s Capital Swim Club). Harnish and Small were medalists for Team USA at the 2015 Pan American Games.
For the men, Michael Andrew (Lawrence, Kan./Indie Swimming) and Sean Grieshop (Cedar Park, Texas/Nitro Swimming) will look to build on their success at the 2015 FINA World Junior Championships, where they combined for eight medals in Singapore. All eight men on the roster are members of the USA Swimming National Junior Team.

Serving as a valuable resources to the athletes on the roster, Felicia Lee (Wayne, N.J./Stanford Swimming) and David Plummer (Oklahoma City, Okla./New York Athletic Club) are the National Team representatives on the trip.

I didn’t realize that the US sent official teams to these WC events. I guess I always thought it was individuals who paid their own way in an attempt to earn prize money. Do you know if the US is sending any kind of senior team to any of the WC races? Anyone heard whether Katie Ledecky is going to swim any?
northern sue – they don’t send official senior teams of this size, but they’ve been doing these junior teams for a while now, along with “mentors” from the Senior National Team. USA Swimming will fund up to 6 National Teamers per World Cup, but they have to apply and express a desire to go – this year, it appears as though interest was rather limited.

Totally unrelated to the article, but just had some quick questions about high school swimming. First of all, on average, how many yards do high school swimmers, who got on to a collegiate level, swim per day? And how often should they do dry land? Also, is it more important to focus on technique or building muscle in high school? Thanks!
Considering how horrendous some of the times have been from the male side for the World Cup this year (55.96 for bronze in the 100 back, 15:28 win for the 1500m ) Andrew can probably make quite a few podium places if he can swim about his best times like he usually does….
It would be great to see MA swim some more PB’s in LCM. 100 free 49.?, 100 Breast 1:00 low and 100 fly 52 low. All of those times would keep him on an improvement trajectory for the semi’s and possibly better at OT’s. Who knows what he can do from there.
