Haley Anderson: Trust in your Hard Work and Dedication

Vince Lombardi once said:

“The only place Success comes before Work is in the Dictionary.”

So here you are, a whole off-season of training, early morning training, followed by hours in the pool, dual meets, and now you are entering your championship season.  You have put all this work into being the best swimmer you can be and helping your team succeed through your own individual achievement.  You are just about to step up on to the block and your heart is racing.  Thoughts flying through your mind, how am I going to do, will I win, will I place, or am I ready?  These are all part of being a high performance athlete and, more importantly, it’s human nature.

That feeling you have is generated from one of two things: nervousness or anticipation.  “What’s the difference?” you ask. It’s really the adrenaline running through your body.   At this time of year, it’s the positive reaction of adrenaline.  You know you have put every ounce of energy in and out of the pool, mentally visualized yourself churning and burning through the swimming pool.  The fact that you have prepared as much as you physically could for just this moment helps you perform at your best when the stakes are highest.  Today is the day you will put it all together.

Haley Block, 300x300, block Ad, DolfinOlympic medalist and Dolfin athlete, Haley Anderson, believes:

“There’s no point focusing on the things you can’t change. So just focus on all the hard work and time you have dedicated and trust in that work to shine through when the time comes to race.”

So the next time you have the adrenaline surge, just know that you are going to succeed due to all your hard work!
