GVSU Lakers Pick Up Another Verbal: Las Vegas Distance Swimmer Caroline Brereton

Caroline Brereton, who swims for Coach Ron Aitkin at Sandpipers of Nevada and attends Shadow Ridge High School in Las Vegas, Nevada, has made a verbal commitment to Grand Valley State University for 2015-16.

1650y free – 17:33.62     1500m free – 17:28.98
1000y free – 10:30.74     800m free – 9:15.50
500y free – 5:11.25          400m free – 4:30.31
200y free – 1:58.50          200m free – 2:10.94
200y back – 2:07.51         200m back – 2:25.90
400y IM – 4:43.65             400m IM – 5:14.07
200y IM – 2:16.30             200m IM – 2:36.97

Brereton is a versatile swimmer who seems to do better the longer the race. If you just look at her 1650, 1000, and 500 times (Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference championships has all three), not only would she score in the A-final of all of them, but also she is faster than anyone Grand Valley had in those events last year.

Even better, in long course season last summer, Brereton dropped huge amounts of time in the 1500m (-33 seconds!), 800m free (-10), 400m free (-6) and 200m free (-6). She had some impressive drops last short course season, too.

In addition, she has a nice 200 back and 200/400 IM. Brereton has the kind of flexibility that will allow the GVSU coaching staff to use her where they need the points. She is a great addition to the Lakers’ roster.
