Grothe, Kalisz, Ruck Lead 2018 PSS Points After Mesa

At the halfway point of the 2018 Pro Swim Series, Zane Grothe sits tied with defending champ Chase Kalisz for the men’s point lead, while Taylor Ruck still stands atop the women’s ranks.

Both Kalisz and Grothe have piled up huge point totals of 46 thus far, swimming at all three stops. In Mesa, Kalisz won the 200 IM, 400 IM and 200 fly for 15 total points. Grothe, meanwhile, won the 800 and 1500 frees, plus added silvers in the 200 and 400 frees for a total of 16 points.

The next-closest challengers are Nathan Adrian, who won the 50 and 100 frees for 10 points in Mesa, and Ryan Murphy, who won the 100 and 200 backs for 10 points of his own in the desert.

Ruck didn’t even swim in Mesa, but she still holds an 11-point lead after a stellar 4-win weekend in Atlanta last month. The closest challenger is Hali Flickinger, who sits at 22 points. Flickinger scored 11 in Mesa, including a win in the 200 fly.

INDIVIDUAL POINTS/PRIZE MONEY

FINAL 2017 PRO SWIM SERIES POINTS & MONEY LISTS

Individual Olympic events will yield prize money for the top 3 finishers. (Olympic events now include the men’s 1500 and women’s 800 freestyles). They will also yield points to count toward the end-of-series high-point winners.

• 1st: $1,000 (5 points)
• 2nd: $600 (3 points)
• 3rd: $200 (1 point)

The stroke 50 shootouts will yield prize money for each round achieved, but no series points:

• Round 1 winners: $200
• Round 2 winners: $400
• Round 3 winner: $600

The money is earned cumulatively. So the overall winner will take home $1200. Second place will earn $600. Both semifinalists will make $200.
