WOMEN
GRINNELL, Iowa — The Foresters of Lake Forest College captured their first Midwest Conference (MWC) Women’s Swimming and Diving Championship title since 2012 and eleventh overall with a total of 898 points on Sunday.
The Foresters and Women’s Swimming & Diving Coach of the Year, Vadim Tashlitsky, took home nine first-place finishes and seven second-place finishes to outlast a strong weekend outing by Grinnell College. Outstanding Swimmer of the Year, Violet Anderson finished in first place in the 200-yard individual medley, 100-yard butterfly and 200-yard butterfly.
The Pioneers finished in second place just 18.5 points shy of the Foresters with 879.5. Grinnell had six first-place finishes and eight second-place finishes on the weekend. Outstanding Diver of the Year, Sophie Wojdylo finished first in 3-meter diving with a NCAA B standard score of 427.50 and third in 1-meter diving. Outstanding Newcomer of the Year, Kendra Howard finished third in the 100-yard individual medley and fourth in both the 200-yard individual medley and 200-yard breaststroke.
Finishing with a third-place finish in the women’s standings was Lawrence University with 429.5 points. The Vikings took home three first-place finishes, including a MWC record-breaking finish in the 100-yard freestyle by Erin Lengel (52.81), a record she set in 2019 (52.83).
St. Norbert College and MWC Elite 20 award recipient, Kirsten Williams, finished the weekend in fourth place with 315 points.
Rounding out the rest of the field were Illinois College in fifth (283), Monmouth College in sixth (218), Ripon College in seventh (213), Knox College in eighth (191), and Beloit College in ninth (112).
MEN
GRINNELL, Iowa — The Grinnell College Pioneers captured their fifth consecutive Midwest Conference (MWC) Men’s Swimming and Diving Championship title on Sunday with a total of 915.5 points.
Led by Men’s Swimming and Diving Coach of the Year, Erin Hurley, the Pioneers took home eight first-place finishes and six second-place finishes. Outstanding Diver of the Year, Grant Lattery took home first in 1-meter diving with a score of 366.30 and third in a Pioneer 3-meter diving sweep. Teammate and Outstanding Newcomer of the Year, Enrique Valero Ying took the top spot in the 400-yard individual medley and runner-up in the 100 breaststroke.
Lake Forest College finished in second with a total of 687.5 points. The Foresters completed the three-day event with five first-place finishes and seven second-place finishes. Lake Forest sophomore and MWC Elite 20 Award Winner, Graeme Witte captured his first career championship win in an individual event in the 200-yard freestyle.
Finishing third in the men’s standings was St. Norbert College with 516 points. The Green Knights took home four first-place finishes and three second-place finishes on the weekend.
Monmouth College and Outstanding Swimmer of the Year, Preston Bocchi, finished in fourth place with 344.5 points. Bocchi took home first place finishes in the 50-yard freestyle and 100-yard backstroke.
Rounding out the rest of the field were Lawrence in fifth (339), Illinois College in sixth (209), Beloit College in seventh (196), Ripon College in eighth (170.5), and Knox College in ninth (44).
