Gretchen Walsh Ties Own NCAA Record With 20.37 50 Free Relay Lead Off

After missing her own NCAA, American, and everything record in the individual 50 free on night two of NCAAs, Gretchen Walsh tied her record swimming a 20.37 leading off the 200 free relay.

Walsh swam a 20.44 to win the event earlier in the evening but said “I think I wanted to go a best time. So not exactly what I was looking for.”

Her emotion was much different after the relay. “I feel much better now…I felt like I had something to prove there.” The Virginia women went on to win the NCAA title in a 1:24.45.

With Walsh’s swims tonight, she now holds the top 10 performances in the 50 free all-time.
