Grand Valley Picks Up In State Verbal from Matthew Lane

Matthew Lane of Farmington Hills, Michigan has announced his verbal commitment to swim for Division II Grand Valley State University beginning in the fall of 2020. Lane swims for dROP Aquatics as well as for Farmington High School.

Thrilled and proud to announce my verbal commitment to swim and study at Grand Valley State University! I couldn’t have gotten where I am today without the support and love from my family, coaches, friends and teammates. Anchor up!

At the 2019 Michigan High School Boys D1* State meet last spring Lane took eleventh in the 200 IM, finishing in a time of 1:56.88. At the Michigan Swimming LSC Open Championships he finished sixth in the 200 breaststroke (2:08.96)  and tenth in the 400 IM (4:11.21). Lane won the 200 breast at the 2019 MCSA Senior Cup Championship, finishing in a Futures qualifying time of 2:07.79.

*Note: in Michigan, Division I includes the state’s biggest schools.

Lane will be joining a breaststroke and IM group led by last year’s Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference’s Freshman of the Year, Keegan Hawkins. Hawkins qualified for Division II NCAA’s in both breaststrokes and IM’s, finishing seventh in the 400 IM. Lane will have two years of overlap with Hawkins after arriving on campus next fall.
