GMX7 Weekly Wonders of Age Group Swimming – 6/24/2022

In our GMX7 Weekly Wonders of Age Group Swimming series, we celebrate swimmers of every age and experience level with age group profiles of some recent results.

Landon D’Ariano, 16, Germantown Academy Aquatic Club (GAAC-MA): D’Ariano has had a monstrous long course season thus far, lowering numerous best times in late May at the SCAR Memorial Day Meet and then adding five more last weekend at the JW Summer Solstice. The 16-year-old Germantown Academy swimmer put up a time of 2:04.93 in the 200 IM, ranking him 40th all-time in the boys’ 15-16 age group, and he also clocked 8:08.79 in the 800 free to rank 36th in the age group’s history.

Bella Brito, 14, Beach Cities Swimming (CITI-CA): Brito showed off her versatility at the SCS/RMDA June Age Group meet last weekend, hitting new best times across the 100 free, 100 breast, 100 fly and 200 IM. In the 100 free, her swim of 57.33 ranks tied 80th all-time in the girls’ 13-14 age group, while her 1:12.14 in the 100 breast moves her into 86th. The Beach Cities swimmer also clocked in at 1:02.54 in the 100 fly to sit fifth this season in the nation among 14-year-old girls.

Sam Marsteiner, 14, New Wave Swim Team (WAVE-NC): Marsteiner’s standout weekend at the TAC Triangle Classic included lifetime bests across seven events, with the most notable swim coming in the 200 backstroke. The 14-year-old dropped over six seconds over the course of prelims and finals, recording a time of 2:06.47 to rank 28th in the boys’ 13-14 age group. Marsteiner also moves into 70th among 13-14s after dropping two seconds for a 4:05.56 in the 400 free.

Abby Lewton, 14, Sheridan Swim Team (SST-IL): Lewton put up an incredible eight new best times at the CSC Summer Invite two weeks ago, highlighted by a 2:20.16 swim in the 200 back which ranks 12th this season among 14-year-olds in the U.S. Not included in those eight PBs was Lewton’s 1:04.91 swim in the 100 back, which is under the Futures Cut but falls just shy of her 1:04.55 best set just a few weeks prior at the GULF Duel In The Pool.

Taylor Thongintra, 13, Aquazot Swim Club (AZOT-CA): Also competing at the SCS/RMDA June Age Group meet, Thongintra established five new personal bests, including a trio of very quick swims in the 200 breast, 200 IM and 400 IM. The Aquaztot Swim Club member swam to a time of 2:28.79 in the 200 breast, ranking him 38th all-time among 13-year-old boys in the U.S. and second in the nation this season. He also hit PBs of 2:16.44 and 4:49.26 in the 200 and 400 IM, respectively, to rank eight and third in the country this season for 13-year-olds.

Davina Huang, 14, Santa Clara Swim Club (SCSC-PC): Swimming in her home pool at the George Haines International meet two weeks ago, Huang clocked in lifetime bests of 28.63, 1:02.87 and 2:18.18 in the girls’ 50, 100 and 200 butterfly, respectively, ranking her third, seventh and fourth in the U.S. this season among 14-year-olds. She also registered new lifetime bests in the 400 free and 400 IM.
