Wellbrock already is qualified for the 2018 European Championships in the 1500m freestyle and the 400m freestyle.
On the women’s side, Sarah Köhler set a new German National Record in the 1500m free yesterday. The German long distance swimmers are at the moment clear medal candidates for the European Championships.
Wellbrock dominated the race from start to finish und won with a ten-second lead ahead of Ukraine’s Mykhailo Romanchuk.
The European record is held by 2016 Olympic Champion Gregorio Paltrinieri (ITA) in 14:34,04.
Wow. More competition for Paltrinieri.
