Germany & France Add Olympic Quota Dive Spots In Final Qualifying Event

2021 FINA DIVING WORLD CUP – TOKYO

MEN’S 3-METER Springboard – PRELIMS

Great Britain already has its two Olympic quota spots in this event, but their duo of Daniel Goodfellow and James Heatly still went 1-2 in prelims of the men’s 3-meter springboard.

So that left Germany’s third-place qualifier Martin Wolfram as the top-placing new Olympic quota spot. Wolfram sits about 41 points back of Goodfellow and gives Germany two Olympic quota spots.

France’s Alexis Jandard took a quota spot in fifth. That’s France’s first quota spot in this event after they qualified two spots on men’s 10-meter.

WOMEN’S 10-METER PLATFORM – Semifinals & Finals

Yesterday’s prelims locked in the final Olympic quota spots on women’s 10-meter, but today’s evening session featured semifinals and the medal final in the event.

Malaysia’s Pandelela Pamg was just fourth out of prelims, but moved up to third in semis and saved her best stuff for the biggest moment. The 28-year-old two-time Olympic medalist scored 355.70 in the final to win gold, besting Japan’s Matsuri Arai by about 13.

Arai is just 20 and should be one of the young stars making her Olympic debut later this summer.

21-year-old Canadian Caeli McKay led semis, but fell to third in the final, scoring 338.55 for bronze. McKay was the 2019 Pan Ams silver medalist in this event, and won Pan Ams gold as part of a synchro duo.
