Georgia Tech Sweeps Cincinnati, Including Domination on Men’s Side, on Training Trip

The Georgia Tech men and women swam their second meet of a south Florida winter training swing, posting a dominant scoring margin over the Cincinnati men 217-104, and a closer 178-142 win on the women’s side, at the YMCA Norris Aquatic Center in Naples, Florida; the home pool of T2 Aquatics.

The Georgia Tech men claimed 13 of the 14 events to improve to 7-3 on the season, while the women won 11 of 14 events to improve to 6-7 on the season.

Georgia Tech started off with wins in both distance freestyle events. Yuval Safra kicked off the meet by winning the men’s 1000 freestyle in 9:22.11. He would go on to win the 200 backstroke in 1:49.09 and the 400 IM in 4:01.71.

The Cincinnati  women claimed their first of three victories in the women’s 200 freestyle. Jacqueline Keire posted a 1:52.21 to win the event. She won her other two individual events as well, touching at 23.83 in the 50 freestyle and 5:05.13 in the 500 free.

Andrew Kosic led Tech to a 1-5 sweep of the men’s 100 backstroke with his time of 50.46. He also finished first in the 100 free with his time of 44.91.  The women’s team also had a 1-5 sweep of the 100 back led by Carly Sweeney.

Tech’s Alex Reiger won the women’s 200 backstroke with a time of 2:04.78, 3 seconds ahead of the second place swimmer.

Cincinnati’s Chris Bready won the 500 freestyle with his time of 4:35.52. That was the only event win of the day for the  Cincinnati men.

Kira de Bruyn also doubled up for Tech, winning the 100 free in 53.96 and the 400 IM in 4:30.65.

Georgia Tech returns to action in 2015 for their White Vs. Gold Intrasquad on Jan 9th and their senior day meet vs Duke on Jan 17th. Cincinnati is back in action on Jan 10th vs Miami of Ohio.
