The Georgia Southern Eagle women have gotten verbal commitments from two prospects, breastroker/IMer Madison Lichtefeld and freestyler/butterflyer Amber Cortazzo.
Lichtefeld looks like an instant upgrade to Georgia Southern’s IM group. Her best time of 2:04.36 would have placed her 5th at last year’s Coastal Collegiate Swimming Association championships in an event where the Eagles scored only one swimmer, then-freshman Becca Alves. Lichtefeld also looks like a potential A finalist in the 200 breaststroke and a probable scorer in the 100 breast.
Lichtefeld swims for Sacred Heart Academy in Crestwood, Kentucky, and also competes for Lakeside Swim Team. Her twin brother Chandler will also head to the state of Georgia after committing to Emory University in Atlanta.

Amber Cortazzo‘s best event is the 500 free, where her top time is 5:00.68, another time that would have A-finaled at the 2013 CCSA championships. Her best swims so far might be her contributions to relays at Wilson High School in Sinking Spring, Pennsylvania, though. She has been 52.3 on Wilson’s 400 free relay and split a 26.3 in the 50 fly on its medley last spring.
The Lancaster Aquatic Club swimmer is versatile, swimming all four strokes and freestyle distances ranging from the 50 to the mile in times that could help the Eagle women next season. She should give coach Nathan Kellogg some much-appreciated lineup options in dual meets next fall.
