Geoff Huegill and Wife Plead Guilty To Possession Of Cocaine

Former world record holder and multiple Olympic medalist Geoff Huegill and his wife, Sara, have pleaded guilty to cocaine possession, according to the Sydney Morning Herald.

On April 29th, we reported that the couple had been charged with the possesion of an illicit drug, and that a court date had been set for the 14th of May. Police were called to their suite while they were attending an event at the Royal Randwick race track. When police approached the couple, they were “very polite and cooperative, according to their lawyer, Dean Woodbury. “The drug bust occurred in a private area and involved a small quantity of cocaine.”

Today in court, the couple pleaded guilty and was given a six-month good behavior bond. The judge admitted to knowing of Huegill and his athletic accomplishments, but reprimanded the couple for engaging in this sort of behavior as public figures and role models to many young people, including their daughters.

Geoff and Sara apologized to all the people they have let down.

“They are both looking forward to earning back the trust and respect of those who have supposed them and the most difficult part of the ordeal would be telling their two young daughters one day.”

“The last couple of weeks of our lives have been some of the most stressful,” Huegill said. “Stressful for our families, stressful for our friends and stressful for our business associates. At some stage in the future, both Sara and I are going to have to have this conversation with our girls.”
