As reported earlier in the year here, Garrett Weber-Gale has stepped in at Nitro in a new role for the 2008 Olympian: a coach. It’s refreshing to hear both how well Nitro seems to be doing after the sudden departure of their old coach, as well as Weber-Gale’s positive take on being a newly minted coach. In an environment that is so conducive and used to success, Garrett says it best: What’s not to love?
GWG also discusses the purpose of a meet like the Longhorn Elite Invite, and reassures onlookers that even if a swimmers time appears to be off so close to trials, it’s not all about how fast an athlete is going at this point in the season. Garrett believes that this is merely a time for sharpening your skills, practicing race strategy, and executing solid technique in your event. If you;re able to do those things now, Weber-Gale insists that you’ll be just fine come the big meet in Omaha.
For us Nitro parents, it is pleasure to watch GWG roam the sidelines and interact with swimmers. Nitro will only get better with him around.
Thank you for the kind words. There is a great group at Nitro, and a lot to build with.
