Futures Qualifier Mia Hensley Commits To Cincinnati For Fall 2022

Fitter and Faster Swim Camps is the proud sponsor of SwimSwam’s College Recruiting Channel and all commitment news. For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.

Mia Hensley of Lancaster, Ohio recently announced her verbal commitment to swim at the University of Cincinnati. Hensley is primarily a backstroke and IM specialist, but is showing improvement in her 200 butterfly.

“I am absolutely thrilled to announce my verbal commitment to continue my athletic and academic career at the University of Cincinnati! Words can’t express how grateful I am for everyone who has helped me along the way. I’m so excited to be apart of this amazing program with great coaches and teammates!! Go bearcats 🐾❤️ !!!”

Hensley swims year-round with the Lancaster YMCA Stingrays. She recently competed at the 2021 YMCA Long Course Swimming Festival (NC) and swam personal bests in the 50/100/200 back, 200 fly, and the 400 IM. This meet was created to replace the YMCA Long Course National Championships which was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Hensley’s Best Times (SCY):

    • 100 fly – 57.75
    • 200 fly – 2:03.86
    • 200 back – 2:00.77
    • 200 IM – 2:06.10
    • 400 IM – 4:26.33

Hensley’s 100 back best time is 59.46 from 2019, which doesn’t stack up to her 2:00.77 200 back. In that 200 back, however, she split 58.82 in the first 100, so a significant time drop in the 100 is to be expected soon.

A rising senior at Lancaster High School, Hensley represented the school at the 2020 OHSAA State Championships (Division I) in the 200 IM and 500 free, placing 16th and 17th overall.

The University of Cincinnati is a Division I mid-major school in the American Athletic Conference. The Bearcat women finished third overall at their 2021 conference meet with 732.5 points.

Hensley will make an immediate impact at the conference level upon her arrival to Cincinnati. Based on her best times, she would’ve scored in five individual events at the 2021 American Athletic Conference Championships. Notably, Hensley’s 200 back would’ve earned her a seventh-place finish overall. Her current personal best time in the 200 back ranks her No. 8 all-time for the Bearcat women.

Hensley will join fellow commits Abi Carroll, Joleigh Crye, and Grace Gavin as members of the incoming class of 2026.
