TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Florida State divers Jesco Helling and Samantha Vear were named the ACC Divers of the Week on Tuesday, following their performances at the TYR Classic this weekend.
“It’s very early in the season right now but these two did some great things this past weekend,” FSU head diving coach John Proctor said. “They both have been working hard and they’re both improving every day. I am very proud of them and I’m excited to see how they progress this season.”
Helling won by 3-meter by just under eighth points with a score of 343.55, setting the meet record.
Despite competing in the ‘B’ final of 1-meter and not allowed to place higher than ninth, Helling also turned in the second highest score among the 16 divers competing at 316.00.
Both scores met the NCAA Zone qualification standard.
Vear finished second on 1-meter with a total of 295.50, which was also under the previous meet record. Her score was an NCAA Zone qualification. She was also 10th on 3-meter, scoring 268.80.
This is the second-career ACC Diver of the Week honor for Vear and the first for Helling.
Helling and Vear will be back in action on Friday at 2 p.m. as the Seminoles host Auburn at the Morcom Aquatics Center. Admission is free.
