We’ve seen photos of the Australian stars as they wrap up the final days of their staging camp in Chartres, about 98 km/60 miles outside the host city.
But on the deck, Dolphins head coach Rohan Taylor spoke to the media on how their journey to Paris is going, covering topics ranging from preparation to the U.S./Australian rivalry to how relays are selected.
Right off the bat, Taylor emphasizes that he sees his head coaching role as ‘a privilege’ and he’s ‘so looking forward to seeing the athletes on the blocks representing Australia’.
In terms of the heated rivalry with the United States, you’ll hear Taylor identify the U.S. as the gold standard of swimming, commenting that ‘we see ourselves as striving to be as consistently good’ as they are.
Taylor also details how the relay squad members’ selection process will unfold over the course of the Olympic schedule, with the aim first to assemble the best heat team to qualify, then go from there, weighing athletes’ daily schedules and individual swims.
Taylor does communicate that he, as head coach, has the final signoff on the relay lineups after all scenarios and recommendations have been reviewed.

Someone should always repeat the question!
Why doesn’t that always happen?
It also gives the interviewee another moment to answer!
LMAO sponsored by ASICS! Not even a competing brand with Nike, get out of here America #1 roll tide go Yankees
Sad to see the headline is about ‘rivalry’.
I think most Aussie fans on S/S are exactly as Rohan describes the situation. The US is almost always #1 team in the world. We respect them and strive to emulate them.
Full stop (or period).
The dictionary defines rivalry as:
Rivalry is the correct word. The Americans are our rivals in the pool. Whether one places a negative connotation on that comes down to one’s tolerance for cow bell-ringing jingoism.
My point was that rivalry was only one brief subject out of a dozen or so in that interview.
If you want someone to facilitate the environment for performance, you want Rohan Taylor at the helm. Just an outright professional at his job and shows the athletes the respect they deserve through the diligence to his role. 🙌

Death, taxes, and American trolls sh*tting on Swimswam article about Australia swimming.
Solid interview seems like the aussies are doing every think possible to compete well . He is under the pump on relay selections its been a mess at previous various meets . Good to hear short is tracking well seems like we didn’t see the whole interview keen on how kyle and Emma are going
Has it? The women’s 4×200 in Tokyo was a disaster but otherwise I can’t think of any relay lineups in the last 3 years that I had a problem with
Agree – Tokyo was the only meet with any relay team controversy.
Short course worlds Meg Harris selected instead of Molly . Mixed relay Chalmers not selected .
idk Mollie’s backstroke was much better than her freestyle that meet (and same goes for her short course trials although she definitely didn’t seem to be trying too hard there considering the only finals she bothered to swim were the 100 back and 100 free) and was the obvious choice to swim backstroke in heats with Minna being off and Kaylee getting rested for the final, I think they made the right choices when they had Madi anchor the 4×50 and Meg the 4×1 medley relays even if we’re used to the lcm perspective where that would be a bit surprising.
the mixed 4×50 medley missing the final was the dud
He signed off on it and therefore wears the manure in the face but the genius behind that 4X200 line-up was one D. Boxall Esq, who was in charge of that relay.
The man with the Midas touch failed us that day in Tokyo, plus the poor swims by Titmus & Mckeon.
Where are the Aussies doing their training camp?
Canet
And now in Chartres, following their few weeks in Canet.
Two 50m pools sounds very sensible.
