Freshman Breaks Shelly Ripple Record at Capital City Swim League Champs

Some notable meet records went down at the Capital City Swim League Championships in Baton Rouge, LA, with finals on Sunday November 1, 2015.

Jolee Liles, a freshman at Parkview Baptist and a club teammate of Miller at Crawfish Aquatics went 4:59.78 in the 500 freestyle to break the 21-year-old meet record of a legend: former Stanford star and 200 fly American record holder, Shelly Ripple. Ripple’s previous record stood at 5:01.92 from 1994.

In a shorter freestyle event, Amy Miller, a senior at Saint Joseph’s Academy who also swims for Crawfish Aquatics, went 50.92 in the 100 Free breaking Leigh Ann King’s record of 51.37 from 2005.

Saint Joseph’s Academy 400 Freestyle relay team of Clayton Black, Claire Charpentier, Bethany Seagraves and Miller broke the record of 3:34.88 swimming the event in a time of 3:30.41. The first three legs are all club teammates for Tiger Aquatics.

Saint Joseph’s would win the girls meet by 46 over Episcopal High.

Colin Bone went 45.69 in the 100 Free breaking his own record from last year and he also went 21.04 in the 50 Free to break James Meyers’ record of 21.05 from 2005. Bone is yet another Crawfish Aquatics swimmer, and competes for Catholic High. He has verbally committed to the Auburn Tigers for next season.

Bone’s wins would lead Catholic High to the team title in a blowout, more than 350 points up on second-place Lutcher.
