Freshman Anya Mostek Leads Harvard To Ivy League Victory Over Brown

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Harvard women’s swimming and diving (2-0, 1-0 Ivy) had a successful Ivy-opening meet at Brown (1-3, 1-3 Ivy), earning a 186-113 victory over the Bears at Katherine Moran Coleman Aquatics Center.

Harvard totaled 12 victories, eight second-place showings, and six third-place finishes to top Brown. Harvard has now won 20 consecutive matchups against Brown.

First-year Anya Mostek was part of four winning events, including three individuals (100 back, 200 back, 200 IM) and one relay (200 Medley Relay). Sophomore Abby Carr (200 Medley Relay, 100 IM, 100 Fly) also had a standout meet.

Harvard finished 1-2-3 in both the one-meter and three-meter diving events, with Nina Janmyr (294.60, one-meter) and Elizabeth Miclau (296.85, three-meter) earning wins for the Crimson.

Harvard Highlights

  • Harvard’s Anya MostekVictoria EisenhauerAbby Carr, and Darlene Fung kicked off the meet with a win in the 200-yard medley relay (1:42.10).
  • Marcella Ruppert-Gomez placed second in the 1000-yard freestyle (10:22.61).
  • In diving competition, on the one-meter board, Nina Janmyr (294.60), Amy Wotovich (290.18), and Elizabeth Miclau (281.63) placed 1-2-3. Miclau took first place on the three-meter board (296.85), with Janmyr (295.65) and Wotovich (294.45) close behind in second and third.
  • Sophomore Molly Hamlin earned her first win of the season in the 200 free (1:49.85). Samantha Shelton placed third in 1:51.09. Hamlin also won the 100 free later in the meet (51.33) by a margin of .01.
  • Harvard had three of the top four finishes in the 100 back, with Anya Mostek winning the event in 53.22. Athena Ye palced third in 57.52, with Addie Rose Bullock in fourth (57.61).
  • Victoria Eisenhauer (1:03.42) and Kaia Li (1:04.61) placed first and second in the 100 breaststroke.
  • Abby Carr won her season debut in the 200 fly (2:01.89). She also added a victory in the 100 fly later in the meet (55.14).
  • Harvard finished 1-2 in the 50 free, with Mandy Brenner earning her first win of the year in the event (23.68) and Darlene Fung placing in second (23.75).
  • Anya Mostek earned her third event victory of the meet in the 200 back (2:00.47)). Addie Rose Bullock finished second in 2:02.56.
  • Kaia Li earned her first win of the year in the 200 breaststroke (2:18.29).
  • Anya Mostek rounded out her standout afternoon with a win in the 200 yard IM (2:02.02), with Kaia Li placing second in the event (2:05.80).
  • Harvard is now 36-9 all-time against Brown.

Next Up

Harvard will head to Hanover, New Hampshire to compete against the host, Big Green, and the Big Red on Saturday at 11 a.m. ET.

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Brown women’s swimming (1-3, 1-3 Ivy) fell to Harvard (2-0, 1-0 Ivy) on Friday afternoon at the Katherine Moran Coleman Aquatics Center. The Bears had three first-place finishes against the Crimson.

“We raced tough tonight against the defending Ivy champs,” said head coach Kate Kovenock. “I’m excited about how we are building this team and who we are becoming this fall. Tomorrow is a significant growth opportunity for our women to turn around and put it all on the line again.”

Sara Barrett continued her strong early season, posting the only two individual wins on the day for the Bears. Barrett took first in both the 1000 freestyle (10:12.41) and the 500 freestyle (4:58.79). Brown also won the 400 freestyle relay with the team of Anna PodurgielAudrey OrangeKelly Dolce and Morgan Lukinac touching the wall in 3:27.75.

Jenna Reznicek posted the fastest backstroke time in the 200 medley (25.52).
