Freestyler Colin Riley Has Signed With the Wisconsin Badgers

Marietta, Georgia’s Colin Riley is set to join the Wisconsin men’s swim team as part of the Class of 2021.

Riley swims for the Marietta Marlins and Lassiter High School. He is a freestyle sprint specialist, with a Winter Nationals cut in the 50 meter free. He also finaled in the 50 meter free at this year’s junior national championships, losing to champion Michael Andrew.

At the 2016 GHSA 6A state championships, Riley finished 2nd in the 100 free (45.96) and 6th in the 50 free (21.29). He was seeded second in the 50 free after prelims, where he went a 20.92.

Riley’s best times are:

Event  SCY LCM
50 Free  20.39  23.53
100 Free  45.30  52.09

Riley will have big shoes to fill in the sprint freestyle events when he arrives in Madison next fall because current seniors (and individual school record holders) Brett Pinfold and Cannon Clifton will have graduated. Clifton holds Badger records in the 50 (19.52) and 100 free (42.66), while Pinfold holds the 200 free record (1:33.79). Clifton and Pinfold’s departures will cause an inevitable shakeup in the Wisconsin relay lineups, which could present an early opportunity for Riley to score points.

He joins Nebraska’s Matthew Novinski and North Carolina’s Dylan Boyd as part of Wisconsin’s Class of 2021.
