Freestyle And Backstroker Owen Robinson Commits To Towson University

Upper Dublin Aquatic Club and Calvary Christian Academy’s Owen Robinson has verbally committed to Towson University.

Last season, Robinson competed in the 100 and 200 free at Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association Class AA Championships, placing sixteenth in the 200 with a 1:48.44. He also qualified for the 100 and 200 freestyle events his sophomore year. Robinson mostly swims sprint freestyle, but he is also proficient in the backstroke and the 200 IM. Here are his best times:

  • 50 FR: 22.39
  • 100 FR: 48.77
  • 200 FR: 1:47.64
  • 100 BK: 55.25
  • 200 BK: 1:59.61
  • 200 IM: 2:05.23

Under the leadership of coach Pat Mead, last season’s Towson Tigers finished second behind the College of William and Mary in the NCAA Division I Colonial Athletic Association Championships. Robinson wouldn’t have scored points at last year’s conference meet, but, due to differences in coaching and training, many swimmers see huge improvements in their first year of college swimming. In between his sophomore and junior years Robinson went from a 50.66 to a 48.77 in the 100 free, so, if his gains continue, he could prove an asset to the Tigers over the next four years.

“I chose Towson University because it was the perfect fit for me,” Robinson said. “I loved the welcoming spirit of the team, the coaches, and the school environment.”
