The Iowa Hawkeyes have delved into the sprint pool for next year’s class of 2020, now adding Crow Canyon Country Club Sharks’ Forrest White to the mix. White was a finalist in the 200 free and 100 back at the 2015 CIF State Championships, and led off DeSalle’s 200 medley relay and anchored their 400 free relay, both of which posted top-6 finishes.
White’s Top Times

- 100 back – 49.80

- 100 fly – 50.34
Although White isn’t quite in range to score at the Big Ten Championships level, he’s likely going to be a big help on relays for Iowa. His range from the 50 to the 200 in freestyle makes him a candidate for any of the free relays, and his prowess in backstroke allows for the Hawkeyes to sub him in on medley relays. His 100 fly isn’t too shabby, either, so he might be relied on to swim fly on some medley relays during the regular season.
The Hawkeyes don’t have any ready replacement for recent graduate Grant Betulius, who was their medley backstroker and split 21.59 and 46.70 on their top 5 relays last season at the Big Ten Championships, but White will bolster the back group at Iowa.
In addition, the Hawkeyes are building a sprinting reputation for themselves. Current freshmen Matt Kamin and Jack Smith have been swimming well in their first collegiate seasons, and Iowa has already had six different guys go under 21 seconds in the 50 free this season.
Besides White, Iowa has two 20-mid/45-mid sprinters incoming in Joseph Myhre and Will Scott, along with breaststroker Weston Credit and diver Alex Streightiff.
