University of Florida freshman Harrison Curley has made an interesting decision on where to transfer next season. With three years of eligibility remaining, Curley will take the next step in his career at Division III Kenyon College in Ohio.
Kenyon is not just any Division III program. It is the Division III program. Though their 31-year NCAA Championship winning streak was snapped in 2010, the men’s program started a new streak in 2013 with another NCAA National Championship.
Curley is primarily a backstroker and IM’er. His best yards times are 48.86 and 1:46.00 in the 100 and 200 yard backstrokes, and 1:53.17 and 3:55.23 in the 200 and 400 yard IMs. All of those times aside from the 200 back were done in high school, but if he can return to those times he will fill some serious (relative) holes for Kenyon.
The Lords last year had only one A-finalist in the 200 IM and the 100 back and the 200 back, and in both cases it was a senior. In the 200 back, it was only one finalist, period. At the Division III level. In the 200 IM they again only had one scorer, though in this case it was sophomore Austin Caldwell.
In the 400 IM and both backstrokes, his best time would have made him an A-finalist at Division III Nationals last year. He will also likely take over as the backstroker on Kenyon’s A-relay with the graduation of Jonathan Rooker.
I might have misread the article but that reported 200 IM time (1:53.17) would not have made finals at d3 NCAA’s. I’m not sure it even would have made the meet.
But with those other times he definitely will be a force for Kenyon next year

I am more than happy for Harrison, he is a hard worker and wonderful person to be around. I am so excited for him to be on a team and a place where his dedication and all around self will be recognized.
