Olivia Katcher out of Miami Country Day has verbally committed to Brown University of the Ivy League, she tells us today via email.
Katcher is a versatile freestyler with yards bests of 52.22, 1:51.30, and 4:55.39 in the 100-500 yard races, as well as a 2:08.4 in the 200 IM and a 57.8 in the 100 yard fly (that time was done as a sophomore).
Her long course swims this past summer were fantastic, and her best times in the 200 and 400 in long course are 2:04.4 and 4:23.0, respectively.
But it will be another two weeks at the Florida High School State Championship meet before we find out what Katcher is truly capable of. That’s because she was already right on top of her best time in the 200 free at the district level. Don’t be surprised to see her under 1:50 in the 200 free this season, something that only one Brown swimmer did last year.
That one was then-sophomore Kate Dillione, who will become Katcher’s training partner for at least one season, which should give Brown a shot at placing in the top 4, at least, in the 800 free relay at the 2014 Ivy League Championships.
