Luke Hanner of Saint Petersburg Aquatics has given a verbal commitment to Drexel University for the 2015-16 season. Hanner is a mid-distance/fly specialist from Bradenton, Florida. He attends Lakewood Ranch Senior High School where he is a six-for-six individual finalist at the Florida High School State Championships. He swam 500 free/100 fly as a freshman and 200 free/100 fly ever since.
Hanner also had a successful long course season this past year, qualifying for Summer Juniors in the 200m free and Winter Juniors in the 400m. His best times over the last two seasons are:
200y free: 1:40.45 | 200m free: 1:54.06 |
500y free: 4:38.02 | 400m free: 4:04.40 |
100y fly: 51.12 | 100m fly: 57.92 |
200y fly: 1:51.69 | 200m fly: 2:08.87 |
Hanner is just off the Dragons’ all-time Top Five lists in the 100/200 fly and the 200 free. He would have scored for Drexel in the 200 free and 200 fly at the 2014 CAA Championship Meet.
Head Coach Adam Braun has been breathing fire into Drexel’s recruiting and it’s been paying off. Seven individual records and four of the five relay records were re-written in 2014. The Dragons were only 18 points out of fourth place at CAAs last year. Look for them to rise in the years to come.
Congratulations, Luke! The Drexel Dragons are getting a great swimmer and an even better young man!
