Tallahassee, Fla. – The Florida State swimming and diving teams combined to bring home four wins on Saturday afternoon in a sweep of the annual quad meet against Florida Southern, North Florida, and West Florida at the Morcom Aquatics Center.

The No. 20 women (5-3, 1-2 ACC) cruised to three wins by scores of  261-44 (FSC), 260-47 (UNF) and 246-73 (UWF). The No. 15 men (4-2, 2-1 ACC) defeated Florida Southern College 207-754.

“I thought we had a good day,” said head coach Neal Studd. “We mixed it up and had some kids do their third or fourth events or something new, and we actually had some really surprising swims- some fast stuff. We had some fun today and had great results so we’re overall pretty excited moving forward.”

The Seminoles won a combined 28 events with the men contributing 12, mostly by underclassmen.

Florida State started off with the advantage by sweeping the 200 medley relay, led by a team of freshmen Ryland Sun, Domen Demsar and Ian Cooper, and junior Paxton Rhoads for a first place time of 1:32.29.

Freshman Aziz Ghaffari earned the win in the 1000 free, clocking in at 9:31.53.

The Seminoles kept the momentum up in 200 free, sweeping the event. Sophomore Kuba Ksiazek took first with a time of 1:38.63. Senior Griffin Alaniz (1:41.99) took second, and freshman Adrian Aguilar clocked in at season-best swim of 1:41.99 for third.

A one-two finish from freshman Nick Vance (50.36), and junior Jackson Lucas (50.53) in the 100 back kept the Noles rolling, with Rhoads winning the 100 breast, timing in at a season-best 58.01.

Sophomore Max McCusker added two wins in the 200 fly (1:51.91), and the 100 free a few events later, with a season-best time of 45.39.

Senior John Mataxas (21.06) and junior Gavin Jones (21.12) provided a one-two finish in the 50 free. FSU then swept the 100 IM behind Demsar (51.81), senior Vladimir Stefanik (52.34), and freshman Francesco Peron (52.65).

Florida Southern picked up a win in the 200 back, but the Noles answered with a sweep of 200 breast as junior Chad McGuire (2:09.42), freshman Nevada Wood (2:10.20), Rhoads (2:12.34) and junior Jackson Seith (2:12.48) finished in order.

Vance (4:35.57) earned his second win of the afternoon in the 500 free. Demsar also picked up a second victory placing first in the Seminoles’ sweep of the 100 fly. Mataxas (49.72) and Alaniz (49.79) followed in second and third.

The men concluded their meet with a one-two finish in the 200 free relay. A team of Ksiazek, Stefanik, Rhoads, and Alaniz took first at 1:22.52, with Cooper, Demsar, Mataxas, and freshman Quinn Scholz following in second at 1:22.91.

The women showcased an impressive performance as well, winning 16 events including both diving events.

The Seminoles came out strong, sweeping the 200 medley relay. The team of sophomores Lauren Hew and Nina Kucheran, juniors Emma Terebo and Madeline Cohen tapped in the top time of 1:44.23.

Sophomore Alexis Durlacher earned a win in the 1000 free with a time of 10:33.45. The women would follow by sweeping the 200 free, where Kucheran won at 1:52.35 followed by freshman Giulia Grasso (1:54.65) in second, and junior Hailey Ladd took third with a season-best time of 1:57.50.

Terebo led the way in the 100 back sweep, posting a season-best winning time of 55.18. Hew (57.95) and junior Kara Coughlin (58.05) finished in second and third.

Bella English added a victory in the 100 breast, with a 1:05.16 time that her edged out her UWF competition Morgan Ayers by .54. She also took second (2:24.42) in the 200 breast.

Senior Paige Schendelaar-Kemp was the winner in the 200 fly, tapping in at a season-best 2:05.90, while junior Rebecca Moynihan notched another season-best time, winning the 50 free at 23.24.

The Seminoles swept the 100 IM behind sophomore Kertu Alnek (57.76). Kucheran (58.65) finished second and freshman Tania Quaglieri (1:00:00) took third.

West Florida stole a win in the 100 free, but the Noles responded with a sweep in the 200 back, with Cohen (2:04.78) taking first, followed by Coughlin (2:05.80) and sophomore Maggie Emary (2:07.47). Relentlessly, they swept the 200 breast as junior Kile Carriger led with a time of 2:22.80.

Kucheran added her second triumph of the afternoon in the 500 free clocking in at 4:59.81.

Sophomore Hannah Womer led the Noles in the 100 fly, winning with a season-best time of 54.85. Alnek (57.08) and freshman Lizzie Harris (57.92) followed in second and third.

Freshman Sydney VanOvermeiren (2:08.80) was the winner in the 200 IM  and Carringer (2:09.96) and Emary (2:10.81) placed second and third for back-to-back sweeps.

Wrapping up the weekend with the 200 free relay, Moynihan, Terebo, Alnek, and Cohen tapped in a first place time of 1:33.96.

On the boards, senior Ayla Bonniwell swept both the 1-meter and 3-meter events. Bonniwell earned a 3-meter score of 330.58 and a 1-meter score of 336.52. Her classmate Molly Carlson finished in second in both events, putting up 330.23 points in the 3-meter and a score of 309.30 in the 1-meter.

The Seminoles will travel to Atlanta to compete in the Georgia Tech Invitational from Nov. 22-24 at the McAuley Aquatic Center.

TALLAHASSEE, FLA. – The Florida Southern men’s swimming team went head-to-head with Division I Florida State University, and lost to the host Seminoles, 207-74.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Junior Matias Lopez had a strong day against top competition, winning the 200-backstroke (1:51.92), and the 200-IM (1:53.26), while placing second in the 100-back (58.19).
  • Freshman Luka Prostran captured second in both distance freestyles, the 1000 in 9:42.98, and the 500 in 4:40.93.
  • Also swimming well throughout the event was junior Miguel Bernotti, who took second in the 200-fly in 1:52.35, ad fourth in the 100-fly in 51.17.
  • Senior sprinter Talor Hamilton placed third in the 50-free in 21.28, just .12 seconds behind the winner.
  • Junior Carlos Bernotti placed third in the 100-free in 46.24.
  • Junior Brandon Dyck took third in the 100-back (51.29) and fourth in the 50-free (21.88).

TALLAHASSEE, FLA. – The Florida Southern women’s swimming team competed in a quad meet at Florida State on Saturday, competing in duals with North Florida, West Florida, and the host Seminoles. FSC dropped all three head-to-head meets, falling to UNF 202-78, UWF 259-63, and FSU 261-44.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Senior Malin Wallen produced two top-six finishes, placing fifth in the 200-individual medley in 2:11.64, and sixth in the 100-free in 53.79.
  • Freshman Morgan Misenar finished sixth in the 1000-freestyle (10:55.07), and seventh in the 500-free (5:18.97).
  • Classmate Tianna Kosek took seventh in the 50-free in 24.88 seconds.
  • Sophomore Grace Sill captured seventh in the 100-IM with a time of 1:03.53.

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – The University of West Florida swimming and diving team turned in a strong performance in Tallahassee on Saturday afternoon with a pair of wins in a quad meet at Florida State. The Argonauts fell to FSU but defeated Florida Southern (259-63) and Division I opponent North Florida (195.5-117.5).

Argonauts swam good times and found high finishes in throughout the meet, starting with a win in the 100 Free for Ester Rizzetto (50.95), which she won by more than a full second. Rizzetto also took second in the 500 Free (5:03.37) and the 50 Free (23.35), where she was just .11 seconds from matching event-winner Rebecca Moynihan.

Rizzetto was far from the only Argonaut with high finishes. Yael Danieli took second in the 1000 Free (10:41.78) and Morgan Ayers finished second in the 100 Breast (1:05.70), while also taking fourth in the 200 Breast (2:26.73).

Other top-five finishes included Lisa Cottage-Ramnick in the 100 IM (fourth; 1:00.48) and 200 IM (fourth; 2:10.86), Lauren Jonsson in the 1000 Free (fourth; 10:49.93), and Katie Balent in the 200 Fly (fourth; 2:09.26). Caitlin Tierney (200 Free, 1:58.38), Aubrey Miller (100 Back, 59.06), and Manon Milczynski (200 Breast, 2:27.72) all finished fifth in their respective races.

West Florida also put together good relays, taking third in the 200 Free (1:38.15) and fourth in the 200 Medley (1:47.89). Tierney and Miller were on each of those relay teams.

West Florida looked sharp on the boards as well. Kelsey DeJesus led UWF and finished third on each board, with a 256.35 on the 3-meter and a 248.67 on the 1-meter.

Next on the schedule is the Delta Diving Invitational, which runs from November 22-24 in Cleveland, Mississippi. From there, UWF will wrap up the fall season with a trip to the Spartan Invitational in Clearwater, Florida, from December 16-19.
