Florida Gulf Coast gets verbal from Canada’s Yvonne Kang

Canadian Yvonne Kang, from Markham, Ontario has made a verbal commitment to Florida Gulf Coast University beginning in the 2015-16 season.

Kang, who is a member of Dolphins Swim Team (the same club as Sinead Russell) swims primarily IM and butterfly.

Kang’s best short course yards times are:

50y free – 24.38
100y breast – 1:08.48
200y breast – 2:22.91
100y fly – 56.70
200y fly – 2:06.87
200y IM – 2:06.51
400y IM – 4:38.84

Kang hasn’t done a lot of racing in short course yards, but the times she does have would have been helpful to FGCU at the 2014 Coastal Collegiate Swimming Association (“CCSA”) Championships. Her 100 fly time, had she swum it in prelims, would have just snuck into the A-final in a heat that was devoid of Eagles. Her 200 fly would have made the B-final.

“I’m just so happy that everything worked out the way it did. I’ve always wanted to go to an American university and swim there. I feel like there’s such a greater feeling of team and family when it comes to sports teams and I’ve always wanted to be a part of that. I can’t wait to contribute to FGCU’s team and swim for them.”
