BOCA RATON, Fla. – The Florida Atlantic University men’s and women’s swimming & diving team ended 2019 on the right foot, as they hosted the annual FAU Fun Invitational Friday afternoon. The Owls hosted the men and women of ODU, men of Wabash and women of North Texas in the non-scoring meet filled with unique events.
- The women’s team kicked off the day with a second place finish in the 100 medley relay. Abby Marshall, Haley O’Meara, Ashlyn Hunt and Spence Atkins were behind the 50.12 finish
- Sharon Kok captured third in the 200 free (1:56.72)
- Fatimah Westbrook tallied two first place finishes on the day. The senior tallied top finishes in the 50 breast (30.07) and 50 free (24.53)
- Danica Garbett (58.89) and Payton Remick (58.97) finished first and second, respectively in the 100 fly
- Mackenzie Brown captured second in the 50 free (24.53)
- The 300 free relay team of Marshall, Westbrook, Dominique Sauger and Brown captured first in the event with a time of 2:37.00
- Miranda Fellowes took third in the 100 back with a time of 1:00.67, while Hailee Trotter took third in the 100 breast (1:07.91)
- Atkins captured first in the 500 free (5:07.09) and was followed by Kirsten Hobson, who came in third (5:09.79)
- Hailee Trotter captured first in the 100 IM reverse (1:00.67)
- Atkins tallied second in the 50 fly (26.46) followed by Payton Remick in third (27.00)
- In the 100 free, Sarah Martin recorded second place (54.36)
- The Owls wrapped up swimming events with first place in the 400 medley IM relay behind Atkins, Garbett, Fellowes and Molly Jordan (4:06.81)
- Alicia Mora swept on both the 1- and 3-meter. Taylor Downs captured second on both
- The men’s team also captured second in the 100 medley relay. Braedan Leach, Carter Januzelli, Skyler Hamilton and Connor Smoak finished in 43.94
- FAU recorded a sweep in the 200 free. Rateb Hussein touched the wall first (1:42.47) followed by Josh Fountain in second (1:43.37) and Clay Riemenschneider in third (1:44.41)
- Kyle Douglas and Reilly Maguire tied for first in the 50 back with a time of 24.80
- Quinn LaCoursiere took second in the 50 breast (26.99) and 100 breast (59.70). Januzelli captured third in the 100 breast (1:00.02)
- Hussein captured his second individual top finish in the 100 fly (52.38). He was followed by Josh McQueen in the third (54.75)
- Smoak completed a first place finish in the 50 free (21.85)
- In the 300 free relay, Josh McQueen, Hussein, Jacob Thompson and Hamilton were behind the first place finish (2:24.93)
- The men swept in the 100 back with Douglas leading the way with a time of 53.62. Leach (53.76) and Maguire (54.11) took second and third, respectively
- The men swept in the 500 free led by Fountain (4:39.89) and followed by Will Smith (4:43.60) and Riemenschneider (4:45.57) in second and third, respectively
- Douglas (53.08) and Hussein (54.91) finished first and second in the 100 IM reverse
- Skyler Hamilton tallied second in the 50 fly and was followed by Thompson
- In the 100 free, Smoak and LaCoursiere finished first and second, respectively
- The men wrapped up the day with first in the 400 medley IM relay. Januzelli, Alex Taber, Jack Shapiro and Douglas were behind the 3:36.60 finish
- Logan Downey swept on the 1- and 3-meter. Charlie Green captured second in both events
