The Alabama women have reeled in another verbal commitment, this time from Florida-based Sydney Dawson, a senior at Niceville High School. Dawson is primarily a freestyler, and her current club training base is with Coast Aquatics.
“University of Alabama is the perfect place for me to develop my full potential as a student athlete. The world class athletic and academic programs, the welcoming coaching staff, and the beautiful campus made this an easy decision for me. I can’t wait to swim at UA next year! ROLL TIDE!”
At last week’s Florida High School 3A State Championships, Dawson was a 2-time finalist for Niceville. There, she picked up a 5th place finish in the 200 free and an 8th place finish in the 100 free. She was also a finalist at the 2015 3A state meet, where she narrowly missed the podium with a 4th place finish in the 100 free.
Dawson’s Top Times:
- 50 free- 24.80
- 100 free- 52.44
- 200 free- 1:52.72
- 500 free- 5:03.47
- 100 back- 58.03
- 200 back- 2:04.10
At Alabama, Dawson will be among a group of freestylers that includes Temarie Tomley, who scored in the B-final of the 100 free and C-final of the 200 free at the 2016 SEC Championships. She’ll also be training with Morgan Fleming, who scored in the 50 free as a freshman at 2016 SECs.
