MIAMI (Jan. 28, 2022) – Swimming and Diving was back at home for the final time on Saturday morning hosting FAU on Senior Day, beating the Owls, 193-88.
It was a dominant performance by the Panthers as they led wire-to-wire and won all 16 events.
The complete team performance saw nine different winners, led by sophomore Christie Chue with three first place finishes and freshman Var Erlingsdottir Eidesgaard who earned two victories.
On the diving board, graduate student Maha Gouda once again finished first in both the 3-meter (318.98) and 1-meter (318.98).
Through the first seven events FIU held a commanding, 101-27, advantage over the Owls, winning every race and taking first through third in four.
The meet opened with another clean sweep for the Panthers’ relay teams as they finished first through third in the 200-medley.
In the 1000-free, Eidesgaard finished first (10:14.29) followed by junior Madeleine Anderson (10:42.09) and junior Ellie Maradyn (10:46.02).
Chue (1:02.67) led the way in the 100-breast with freshman Ingrid Huszar (1:03.44) finishing second and senior Delaine Goll (1:04.81) taking third.
Another FIU sweep came in the 50-free as sophomore Jessica Shpilko (23.67), senior Lamija Medosevic (23.95) and junior Delaney Biro went first, second and third, respectively.
In the 3-meter dive Gouda took the top spot with graduate student Serena Buchwald finishing in third with a 278.25.
The Panthers advantage ballooned to 176.5-45.5 at the second break with five more wins and three more sweeps.
For a second time, Chue (2:16.42) and Huszar (2:19.08) finished first and second, this time in the 200-breast with freshman Nicole Frank (2:19.55) finishing in third.
A sweep in the 500-free was led by Eidesgaard (5:01.65) and followed up by freshman Harliai Curthoys-Davies (5:04.14) and Ana Daisson (5:09.51.).
FIU also earned all the podium positions in the 100-fly with senior Kasia Kolodziej (56.27) taking first, Shpilko (56.59) finishing second and freshman Oumy Diop (56.87) rounding out in third.
FIU closed out the meet with three more victories.
Chue (2:04.22) and Huszar (2:08.46) took first and second for a third time, earning the top sports in the 200-individual medley.
The swim events closed with a battle between freshman and seniors in the 200-free relay. The newcomers took the race as the team of Daisson, Curthoys-Davies, Eidesgaard and Diop took first with a 1:35.82.
It was a clean sweep for the Panthers in the 3-meter dive, Gouda finished first, followed by Raquel Mason (284.63) and Buchwald (305.93).
UP NEXT
FIU closes out the regular season on Friday, February 10 as participants in the University of Miami First Chance Invitational. The meet is set to start at 10 a.m. at the Whitten Center Pool.

Miami – The Florida Atlantic University women’s swim & dive team completed their last meet of the regular season on Saturday morning against the rival FIU. The Owls were ultimately defeated 193-88, but still showcased impressive marks in the pool and on the diving board.
- Kasia Szlek placed in second in the 200 Free (53.41)
- Julia Earnshaw finished in second place in the 100 Free (53.41)
- Lauren Wright won silver in the 100 Fly (58.75)
- In the 3-meter dive, Trinity McNall finished in second place with a score of 308.93
The men’s & women’s swim & dive teams are now looking ahead to their respective conference champions. Both will occur Feb. 15-18. The CCSA Championships, featuring the men’s team, will be held in Knoxville, Tenn. while the women will compete in their first ever American Athletic Championships in Dallas.
