Fiona Doyle has been absolutely on fire at the 2015 CIS Championships, taking home two wins, and as of tonight’s final breaking her third Irish national record of the meet.
Doyle came up big tonight, winning the 200m breaststroke final by two and a half seconds and setting a new Irish record of 2:27.63 in the long course 200m breaststroke.
That time was good enough to break her previous mark of 2:29.86 that she swam at Canadian trials last year. That record gave her her second national record of the day. In the prelims, Doyle downed the short course 200m breaststroke mark with a very swift 2:23.64.
Doyle is now the Irish national record holder in all the long and short course breaststroke events except for the short course 50m breaststroke. That record is held by Sycerika McMahon at 30.34.
Doyle will have one shot at the record tomorrow, as she’ll swim the prelims of the 50m breaststroke where if all goes well she’ll qualify for the finals and attempt a breaststroke sweep here in Victoria.
