The 2017 World Aquatics Championships will run from July 15th-30th in Guadalajara, Mexico, according to a release from the International Olympic Committee this week. The Masters’ World Championships will follow immediately thereafter, marking the second occasion on which FINA will couple the two events in the same city and same venue (after the planned 2015 double in Kazan, Russia).
The beginning of the multi-discipline event will coincide with exactly 6 years after the announcement of Guadalajara as the host.
This will be the earliest start of a World Championship meet since 2007, when it was hosted in Melbourne, Australia in March. In terms of relative time, it will be more than a week earlier than the 2015 World Championships – a meet that has already been moved to accommodate the Pan Am Games. For countries like the United States, who have a very late trials and thus a rather specific timing, this earlier date will have some impact on the timing of the meet’s trials. Fortunately, most countries have still not set dates for 2017 national championships, and will thus have some flexibility to work around the Worlds schedule.
In UK too, need to know dates so we can arrange hotels etc in good time. Why is this not known already?
