Erika Brown continued a hot meet this weekend at the Tennessee Invitational with a new lifetime best swim of 46.15 in the women’s 100 free final. Not only did that win the race by more than a second-and-a-half, it now ranks her as the 2nd-best performer in the history of the event.
Brown’s previous best time, done at last year’s SEC Championship meet, was a 46.41 that had her ranked 5th all-time. With her swim on Saturday evening, she leapfrogged a trio of titans in the sport: Olympic gold medalist and 14-time World Champion Olivia Smoliga, American Record holder in the 50 yard free Abbey Weitzeil, and former American Record holder in the 100 free in long course Mallory Comerford.
Brown’s old personal best remains the SEC Championship Record, though by jumping Smoliga, she breaks the overall SEC conference record in the event.
Comparative Splits:

Brown’s improvement from her previous best time last season was due to drops in both the front-half and back-half of her race. Also on Saturday, she split 45.92 on a Tennessee free relay this weekend

Should we call this…The Kredich Standard. At some point recruits and families will have to realize the facts that Kredich is producing year after year over the Instagram posts from the startups
What exactly are you saying? ‘Instagram posts from the startups’ means what?
Great point! It’s very clear that Kredich and his staff have focused on developing athletes to become world-class. There’s something special brewing in Tennessee.
We all knew this day was coming!
What is in the water in Tennessee??? These women are crushing it mid season
They were fast here last year as well! Popov was on fire at this meet last year too which takes the medleys to another level. Will need her in March.
She seems to be a big time taper swimmer. I wonder if they would ever run Small at breast on a medley. She’s been 1:00 or 1:01 in season.
She is shaved and tapered?
Stud! Gonna be a battle between her and Walsh for that last 4×100 free relay spot in Tokyo!
Don’t forget Geer
Yeah those are my 6 to make the team for that relay. Hoping to see Brown at finals, but Walsh is exciting too. Would love to see Brown sneak on the 4 x 2 as well. Does Small have a shot at 200 IM?
Weitzeil’s PB is from 2014! hope she can finally beat it this year
Yep! I’m guessing she would have last NCAA’s if she hasn’t dislocated her elbow the evening before the 100 free. She went best times in the 50 and 200 yd free last year.
