- Entry List
Entry lists have been released for the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham, UK. The lists include swimming and para swimming, and are divided by event by nation.
There is a disclaimer for all events that entries have to go through a confirmation process and are still subject to change. For example, Isaac Cooper is still entered in the 50 and 100 back despite being sent home by Swimming Australia.
Even though the entries are not finalized, we can still see the initial decisions made by some of the top athletes heading to Birmingham. Thanks to commenters “Troyy” and “Jamesabc” for combing through the entries. See a simplified list of the entries courtesy of Troyy here.
Summer McIntosh has opted for the 400 IM over the 200 free, like she did at Worlds. In Budapest, that move worked out well for her: she won the 400 IM, then led off Canada’s 4×200 free relay in 1:54.79, setting yet another world junior record. Her other individual events are the 400 free, 200 IM, and 200 fly.
Australia’s Kaylee McKeown has entered in five events, set to take on both the 200 and 400 IM along with all three backstroke events. Notably, she scratched the 100 backstroke at the World Championships (where she is the world record holder) to focus on the 200 IM.
Other Noteworthy Entries*
- Duncan Scott – men’s 100/200 free, 200 fly, 200/400 IM
- Matt Sates – men’s 100/200/400 free, 100 fly, 200/400 IM
- Kyle Chalmers – men’s 100 free, 50/100 fly
- Emma McKeon – women’s 50/100 free, 50/100 fly
- Mollie O’Callaghan – women’s 100/200 free, 50/100 back
*not including relays
Not all of the relays will have preliminary heats, depending on the number of nations entered in each given race. None of the women’s relays have enough entries to fill the pool, with only five nations entered in the 4×200 free and seven entered in the 4×100 free and 4×100 medley.
All men’s and mixed relay events have over eight nations entered.

some of those seed times are SC times – e.g first seed women’s 200IM is a ISL SC time
GOLD PREDICTIONS:
I can’t be bothered to go through every single event, but my gold medal totals for each country are as follows (for non-para events only because I know nothing about para):
Australia – 18
England – 8
Canada – 7
South Africa – 3
Scotland – 3
Northern Ireland – 1
No doubt a smaller country may sneak in with an unexpected win somewhere. A couple of events are toss ups
Despite Australia’s best ever Olympics in Tokyo, we’re looking to win only 18/40 events, which is a fair bit less than the 21/38 events we won on the Gold Coast. I have Australia winning every relay except the men’s medley, in which… Read more »
I assume Wiffen in the 1500 will be Northern Ireland’s Gold medal but I don’t see him beating Jervis in that tbh.
Commonwealth start list is out and us nationals start list isn’t! Commies start two days after US Nationals?!?
Just for history’s sake, I wouldn’t use the word Commies.
Sydney Pickrem not listed at all? I don’t remember seeing anything about her pulling out of CWs
I didn’t even notice this at first. That’s a real shame. She seemed to be gaining momentum with her individual gold at short course worlds but did seem a bit off in Budapest. I hope everything is ok. She’s had a bit of a rough ride lately.
If they hold.
4 x 2 W world record is in deep trouble. And Maddie Wilson dropped from 4 x 1 a mixed Free team.
Cooper has been named in the 4 x 1 Med M. We all know that’s incorrect.
Emma Mc entered in more events than last years olympics….WOW
I doubt those are the final relay line ups
Commonsense suggests, and normal major meet protocol allows, that teams only confirm their actual line-ups a couple of hours prior to the actual session start.
There are no heats for the women’s relays however there ARE no ‘relay only’ selections therefore they’re not locked into having to use X,Y or Z given all the potential “co-opts” all have individual swims.
There do appear to be 1-2 ‘relay only’ selections (Southam) on men’s side but there will be heats for their relays.
I did suggest days ago that Emma will be part of the 4 x 2 relay…..so far that’s correct.
The door is certainly open if she’s got the form and done the work. With or without her, they essentially only need not to break to win very comfortably.
I don’t see any WR happening unless Titmus really pulls out an absolute stormer and that will most likely depend on where they place her in the order. TBH, I think she’s least likely to produce that 1.53 leg when sent out first.
Of which Titmus is capable & MOC is also capable of a 1.54 low with a rolling start & a slight improvement.
I don’t think the schedule is particularly favourable for WRs. It’s tougher than the 2018 schedule because it’s been shuffled around to add the mixed relays causing some pretty crappy clashes.
Only three relays have WR potential and these are the problems as I see it:
Mixed 4×100 free – Same session as 200 free for O’Callaghan and she hasn’t shown she can manage such a double yet but the 200 is at the beginning of the session. The bigger problem is the 100 fly semi for McKeon only one event before the relay which is worse than any double she did in Tokyo but given the lack of depth in the event she can probably cruise it. Chalmers also… Read more »
100 fly final do you mean? Before the 4×100 free
Ah yep, the women’s 4×100 free is the 100 fly final the mixed is the semi. It’s really silly schedule.
4 x 2 world record could be demolished if everyone is in top form (as unlikely as that is). There is potential for a 1:53 low, two 1:54 mids and a 1:55 low. That would be more than 3 seconds faster than the current WR. But I don’t expect all 4 of them will be hitting PBs at the same time.
I have a feeling Titmus will be in top form & without pressure, MOC, should also be pretty good to back up after worlds, considering her youth, it’s only Emma that we don’t know as Maddie should swim well too.
