The Emory & Henry College Women’s Swimming Team moved to 8-0 on the year Saturday afternoon as it picked up a pair of wins in double dual competition at Milligan College. The Wasps defeated the Milligan Buffalloes, 144-49, and the Vikings of Berry College by a 134-57 score.
Emory & Henry set four school records on the day. Both of the Wasps’ relays were new program bests while two individual swims were good enough for records as well.
E&H started the meet off with a victory in the 200-meter medley relay. Freshman Jessica Richardson (Vero Beach, Fla.), freshman Liz Kleveno (Fredericksburg, Va.), sophomore Payton Shirey (Seaford, Del.) and freshman Allison Fowler (Morristown, Tenn.) turned in a time of 2:08.23 to set a new top time by nearly two seconds.
Sophomores Taylor Guardalabene (Charlotte, N.C.) and Nicole Powell (Apex, N.C.) went 1-2 in the 800-meter freestyle while freshman Michaela Nolte (Hillsborough, N.C.) won the 200-meter freetsyle.
Fowler won the 200-meter individual medley (2:33.44) to break her own record while Nolte won her second event of the day, claiming first in the 100-meter butterfly (1:09.12) which was also a new school record.
Richardson and Shirey claimed the top two spots in the 100-meter freestyle while Kleveno and freshman Jordan Greenburg (Cordova, Tenn.) went 1-2 in the 100-meter backstroke. In the 400-meter freestyle, Fowler clocked a 4:53.42 to finish first.
The Wasps finished the day off with a program best in the 200-meter freestyle. Nolte, Guardalabene, sophomore Sam Brown (Memphis, Tenn.), and Richardson finished in 1:56.35 to win the event by 7.6 seconds.
Emory & Henry will return to action next week when it travels to Swannanoa, North Carolina for a double dual with Warren Wilson College and Greensboro College. The meet will be the final regular season competition for the Wasps as they get ready for the 2014 ODAC Championships in February.
