NORFOLK, Va. – For a fourth semester in a row, the Emory & Henry College Women’s Swimming Team has earned academic honors from the College Swimming Coaches Association of America. As a team, the Wasps have been named Scholar All-America while one swimmer garnered Honorable Mention Scholar All-America accolades.
“We are extremely proud of the academic achievement these young ladies have achieved,” said Head Women’s Swimming Coach Dave Griffore. “It shows you can be successful in both the classroom and in the pool.”
E&H boasted the 45th-best GPA among all NCAA Division III women’s swimming programs with a 3.49 cumulative grade point average. The mark was at the top of the Old Dominion Athletic Conference as Sweet Briar College (3.36), Washington and Lee University (3.25), Notre Dame University of Maryland (3.23) and Greensboro College (3.13) were also honored.
The Team Scholar All-America award is presented to college and university swimming & diving teams, which have achieved a team grade point average of 3.0 or higher. The award is presented twice annually, once in the fall semester and once in the spring semester. The CSCAA honors teams from each of the NCAA’s three divisions, NAIA and NJCAA. For the spring semester, 151 different NCAA Division III women’s programs achieved the Scholar All-America standard.
Individually, sophomore Michaela Nolte (Hillsborough, N.C.) was chosen as Honorable Mention Scholar All-America to go along with individual ODAC Championships in the 50-yard freestyle, 100-yard breaststroke and 200-yard breaststroke. She also swam on the Wasps’ 200-yard freestyle, 400-yard freestyle and 400-yard medley relays which won conference titles.
The Honorable Mention Scholar All-America Award is presented to those who achieved a grade point average of 3.5 or higher for the semester, or cumulative average, and have achieved a “B” time standard but did not qualify for the national championship meet. Nolte earned a “B Cut” in both the 100-yard and 200-yard breaststroke.
