Ellie Cole Says She’ll Compete In Paris If Cate Campbell Does

Not only is Australian multi-Olympic medalist Cate Campbell not ruling out the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris but Paralympic swimming icon Ellie Cole has followed suit.

Campbell told the media last week that “I don’t feel like I’m completely done with the pool or done with the sport,” following Australia’s historic medal-reaping turn in Tokyo. Among the top performances, Emma McKeon and Campbell (C1) took gold and bronze in the women’s 100m free. That represented the first time Australia had had two medallists in the women’s event since the 1956 Melbourne Games.

29-year-old Campbell followed up with an Instagram post showing her in a stretch routine, humorously stating, “Think my body is subconsciously telling me to go for Paris 2024.”

Among the comments accompanying C1’s post was one written by Cole as, “Yes!!! I told a journalist yesterday that I would if you did #NoPresh.”

If C1 were to continue on and qualify for Paris, she would become a 5-time Olympian. Already she made history with her 100m free bronze medal in Tokyo having come a remarkable 13 years since her first individual bronze in the 50m free in Beijing.

As for Cole, she will be competing in Tokyo when the Paralympic Games start in a matter of days, with this year’s edition representing her 4th Games just Campbell. Cole has amassed over a dozen Paralympic medals throughout the course of her career, competing in the S9 classification.
