Ella Nelson on Racing at Olympic Trials: “This is it for me”

2024 U.S. OLYMPIC TRIALS

Ella Nelson recently completed her 5th year in the NCAA at UVA and told the media at Olympic Trials that after the completion of the meet, this was it for her competitive swimming career. Nelson made 2 finals at the trials, the 100 and 200 breast, and will leave UVA as one of the most decorated Hoos in history with 20 All-American honors.

This interview occurred on Day 5 of the Olympic Trials (Wednesday, June 19, 2024).

Hands down one of the best NCAA swimmers to never win an individual title

She seems like a great teammate and a great person. I remember her saying that she used to be the one who had to corral the Walsh sisters in high school to get them to their events on time.

The Social Kick podcast episode she did, she seemed so genuine and like a really good person. The way DeSorbo talks about her is the same.

Post-Trials is always a bit sad (for me at least) when the retirement announcements start and you realize the people you’ve enjoyed cheering for over the last however many years are done. This young lady is all class and a beast of a swimmer. Not everyone can make the big show. It doesn’t take anything away from her legacy.

Curzan didnt seem too happy. Not sure why the attacks on Stanford keep coming when they swam great.
