After going 2:11.81 in the 200 fly and 2:14.04 in the 200 IM, Ella Eastin has scratched out of both top seeds for tonight’s finals session in Mesa. Haley Anderson also ducked out of the 200 fly A final, moving Mary Smutny and Anna Cheesbrough into the A final. In the 200 IM, 10th seed Katie Ledecky was also a scratch — she’s the top seed in the 800 free, however.
Two would-be A finalists in the women’s 100 breast scratched. Madisyn Cox (1:08.97) and Melanie Margalis (1:10.27) were seeded 5th and 7th, respectively, after prelims, but both have dropped this event. Instead, the two will focus on the 200 IM A final, where Cox is seeded 2nd and Margalis 3rd.
Taylor Abbott was the other top 8 prelims finisher to scratch. He swam a 2:02.65 in the men’s 200 fly, but will focus solely on the men’s 1500 free, where he’s the 2nd seed.
Etiene Medeiros and Kelsi Worrell were scratches from the women’s 100 back C final, while Tim Phillips, Petter Fredriksson and Andrew Porter scratched the men’s 200 IM B final.
