Rachel Stark of the Lake Shore Swim Club and Avon High School has verbally committed to Eastern Michigan University for the 2016-2017 season.
Last season, Stark competed at the Ohio State Swimming Division I Championships, taking 20th in the 100 freestyle in 52.82. This summer, her highest meet placements included third in the 50 LCM free at the 2015 East Futures Championships in Greensboro (28.37) and an 11th place finish in the 50 LCM back at the Speedo Champions Series in Indianapolis (31.91). Here are her fastest times in SCY:
- 50 FR: 23.95
- 100 FR: 52.38
- 200 FR: 1:54.51
- 100 BK: 58.61
- 200 BK: 2:13.34
Under the leadership of coach Peter Linn, the Eagle women were the runners up at the 2015 Mid-American Conference Championships. As she stands now, Stark would not make finals in any of her events, but she is right on the edge, and she should definitely score some much-needed points in season.
Stark may even be fast enough to make an Eagle A relays next season. Last year’s 200 free relay splits at MAC Championships ranged 21.75 to 24.62, well within her ability. To make the 400 free relay, she’d only need to drop about a second (last year’s splits were 50.29 to 51.36), which, given a relay start and the increased training intensity that comes with college swimming, is completely reasonable.

I know this girl and have watched her train day and night for years. She is committed and a great person. She will be a real asset.
