Dynamo’s Emma Layton Verbally Commits to North Carolina for 2017-18

Dynamo Swim Club’s Emma Layton has made a verbal commitment to the University of North Carolina for the 2017-18 season.

“I am so happy to announce that I have committed to swim for the University of North Carolina! The academics, team dynamic, and amazing staff are everything I could hope for and more! I loved how I felt right at home with people I had only just met! As soon as I stepped on campus I knew it was the perfect place for me and I can’t wait to spend the next four years in North Carolina!”

Layton is a senior at Chattahoochee High School. Her family moved to Georgia from Tallahassee, Florida last summer, and in the one year she represented Chattahoochee, she became a Georgia 6A state champion. Layton won the 500 free (4:51.69), placed third in the 200 free (1:49.42), and anchored the medley relay (23.97) at the GHSA 6A State Swimming & Diving Meet.

While Layton excels at the full range of freestyle events, the longer she is in the water the better she is. Swimming for Dynamo, she won both the 800m free and 1500m free at the Nashville Sectionals in March.

Layton top times are:

  SCY LCM
1650/1500 free 16:29.34 16:58.44
1000/800 free 9:58.86 8:51.29
500/400 free 4:48.97 4:20.10
200 free 1:48.83 2:03.70

Layton is joining Caroline Hauder, Emma Cole, and Mary-Oliver Soule in the University of North Carolina class of 2021. Cole is a fellow Georgia swimmer from Chattahoochee Gold.
