Duke University picked up another verbal commitment yesterday, this time from Irvine Novaquatics swimmer Carly Perri. Perri, a senior at Fountain Valley High School in California, swam at the 2015 California state meet her sophomore year. There, she swam backstroke on the second place 200 medley relay, won the 200 freestyle and 100 backstroke, and led off the winning 400 freestyle relay. Perri did not swim at the state meet her junior year due to a rib injury. She announced her verbal via twitter.
Perri will be a big boost for Duke, as the versatile backstroker/butterflyer/mid-distance freestyle swimmer has multiple Winter Junior National cuts. The Blue Devil Women finished sixth out of thirteen teams at last year’s ACC Conference Championships. Perri’s best times are listed below.
- 50 free- 24.00
- 100 free- 51.15
- 200 free- 1:48.57*
- 500 free- 4:56.13
- 100 back- 55.51*
- 200 back- 2:02.19
- 100 fly- 54.54*
- 200 fly- 1:59.17**
- * denotes Winter Juniors cut; ** denotes Summer Juniors cut
Perri will be an instant boost at the conference level for the Blue Devils. Perri would’ve scored in the B final for the 200 fly, as well as the C final for both the 100 fly and 200 free. Perri will immediately score points at the conference level for Duke, as well as potentially being used on relays. Perri’s mid-distance, as well as fly and back prowess, create the potential for multiple relay slots.
HELL YEAH CARLY PERRI IS THE BEST EVER
