Duke Captures 2 ACC Weekly Awards

GREENSBORO, N.C. (theACC.com) – Duke swimmers Peter Kropp and Mickayla Hinkle earned this week’s Atlantic Coast Conference Swimmer of the Week awards, while Pitt’s Dom Giordano and Georgia Tech’s Shannon Lumbra were named ACC Male and Female Divers of the Week.

Kropp took ACC Male Swimmer of the Week honors after posting three first-place finishes against Pitt this past weekend. The junior won both the 100 and 200 breaststroke, earning NCAA B-cut times in each, while also helping the 200 medley relay team to a first-place finish behind a time of 24.02 in the breaststroke leg of the race. Kropp’s time of 52.13 in the 100 breaststroke broke his own pool record in the event, while the Duke 200 medley relay combined time of 1:27.75 was also a pool record.

Giordano finished first in the 3-meter and second in the 1-meter in the Panthers’ loss to Duke on Saturday to earn ACC Male Diver of the Week honors. The junior won the 3-meter competition by 22.2 points and was edged in the 1-meter by 1.35 points. His scores of 396.53 on the 3-meter and 360.98 on the 1-meter were both NCAA qualifying marks.

Hinkle was named this week’s ACC Female Swimmer of the Week after posting three first-place finishes in Duke’s win over Pitt. The freshman swept the women’s backstroke events in her collegiate debut, setting a new pool record and earning an NCAA B-cut time of 54.55 in the 100 back. The time of 54.55 also ranks her third all-time at Duke and first nationally in the event. Hinkle’s time of 25.48 in the leadoff spot of the 200 medley relay also helped her team to set a pool record of 1:41.27 in the event.

Lumbra earned ACC Female Diver of the Week honors after winning both the 1- and 3-meter competitions against Penn State and Liberty. The senior posted NCAA qualifying marks in both events, scoring a 293.95 in the 1-meter and a 281.55 in the 3-meter. Lumbra currently holds the Georgia Tech school record of 312.70 for the 1-meter dive.
