The Drexel men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams wrapped up regular season action on Saturday with dual meet victories over Georgetown. The Dragons’ men’s team defeated the Hoyas 202-98 to complete the fifth perfect dual season in program history, while the women won 159-135 in a tightly-contested meet.

Both teams won the 200-medley relay to open the meet. Alexa Kutch, Gab Rudy, Hollie Hopf and Kaitlin Perni combined to go 1:45.65 in the women’s event while the men’s team of Jason Arthur, Ralph Cannarozzi III, Joe Short and Andrew Zhugayevich swam a 1:34.40 to take their side. John Klein, Joseph Brown, Spencer Hill and Patrick Cobb swam a 1:36.59 to take second place.

The women were swept in the 1000-free, but the swim of the day may have belonged to Ted Dickerson, who came in second in the men’s event. He came from behind to out-touch Georgetown’s Chase Ladman by 0.06 seconds, posting a 9:59.50 to edge him out for second place. The winner was Drexel’s Luke Hanner, who put up a 9;47.62.

Emily Joyce and Kaitlin Perni went 1-2 in the 200-free, with Perni matching Dickerson’s dramatic finish by out-touching Georgetown’s Belinda Donohoe by 0.11 seconds to take second place. The men’s event went to Georgetown, but Patrick Cobb and Dane Bell finished second and third, respectively, to get Drexel on the podium.

Alexa Kutch (56.26) and Alicia Diaz (58.49) finished first and second in the 100-back to get Drexel in control in that event. Jason Arthur won the men’s side with a time of 50.49. Next up was the 100-breast, where Gab Rudy won with a swim of 1:04.66. She was followed by Georgetown’s Molly Fitzpatrick and her teammate Courrtney Levins, who swam a 1:09.09 to take third. The men’s podium was dominated by the Dragons, as Ralph Cannarozzi III won with a time of 58.11, followed by Joseph Brown (58.49) and Harrison Schultz (59.06).

Tanja Kirmse won the 200-fly for the women with a 2:04.15, finishing ahead of teammate Charlotte Myers in third with a 2:09.23 posting. Spencer Hill took second place for the Dragons in the men’s event, swimming a 1:56.88.

The 50-yard freestyle sprint was won by Diaz in the women’s event, as she swam a 24,88. Cobb finished second for the men, going 21.88.

Perni got a victory under her belt in the 100-free, putting up a 53.78 to edge teammate Emily Joyce (53.91). Stathis Malamas won the men’s side with a 46.96, two spots ahead of teammate Jon Ransom (47.76).

Kutch won the 200-back with a 2:05.01, while Diaz finished third with a time of 2:05.96. Arthur won the men’s event with a 1:48.80. Rudy followed by winning the women’s 200-breast with a swim of 2:22.78, while Levins finished third in 2:28.05. The men’s event was swept by Drexel, where Zachary Valenzuela won with a 2:07.83, followed by Brown (2:10.16) and Cannarozzi (2:10.58).

After Joyce and Dora Gerczak finished second and third in the women’s 500-free, Cobb won the men’s event in 4:40.28, pacing a Drexel sweep that included Bell (4:43.08) and Rhys Kawaguchi (4:46.71). Charlotte Myers (57.85) captured the 100-fly for the women, followed by Kirmse (57.98). Meanwhile, Short won the men’s event (51.60) with Hill (51.65) following in second.

Kirmse and Rudy went 1-2 in the 400-IM with times of 4:30.80 and 4:35.81, respectively. Arthur and Jon Pat Ransom did the same on the men’s side, going 4:02.88 and 4:09.42.

The meet ended with the women’s 200-free relay teams finishing second and third, while the men’s team of Malamas, Zhugayevich, Hanner and Dave Kneiss won that side with a time of 1:26.28.

On the boards, Anthony Musciano won the 1-meter event with a 268.20, two places ahead of teammate Simon Carrne (217.80). Carne made up for it with a victory on the 3-meter board, though, posting a score of 247.95.

The Georgetown University swimming & diving team competed in its final home meet of the season on Saturday, swimming against Drexel University on Senior Day at McCarthy Pool. The Hoya women fell, 159-135, while the GU men lost, 202-98. The meet served as Georgetown’s senior day as the Hoyas recognized their 19 seniors during a mid-meet ceremony.

The women’s squad got off to a strong start, taking second and third in the 200-yard medley relay, before sweeping the top three spots in the 1,000-yard freestyle. Cristina Barrett (Chatham, N.J./Chatham) touched the wall first in 10:31.40, while Christine Ryan (Winnetka, Ill./New Trier) just out-touched Olivia Schubert (Staten Island, N.Y./Saint Joseph Hill Academy) for second. Barrett won her second event of the day in the 500-yard freestyle, pulling away in the second half of the race to win in 5:07.04.

In the 50-yard freestyle, the trio of Morgan Conley (Winnetka, Ill./Chatham/New Trier School [N.J.]), Bailey Page (Brentwood, Tenn./Ravenwood) and Kirstin Peterson (Hunterdon County, N.J./Hunterdon Central Regional) placed second, third and fourth. Molly Fitzpatrick (Manchester, N.H./The Derryfield School) touched the wall second in both the 100- and 200-yard backstroke, while Evie Mauzé (St. Louis, Mo./MICDS) finished second in the 200-yard backstroke, and third in the 100-yard backstroke.

Riley Fujioka (Los Altos, Calif./Los Altos) won both the 1-meter and 3-meter dives, recording scores of 252.45 and 279.15, respectively. Elizabeth Miller (Wayland, Mass./Wayland) and Naomi Peng (Gainesville, Fla./Eastside) both finished second and third, respectively, in each event.

On the men’s side, Andrew Stange (St. James, N.Y./Saint Anthony’s) set a McCarthy Pool record in the 200-yard freestyle, touching the wall in 1:41.28. Jack Lynch (Ridgefield, Conn./Ridgefield) won the 200-yard butterfly in 1:55.35, and Seth Maslowski (Cary, N.C./Green Hope) finished first in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 21.48.

Drew Carbone (Chelmsford, Mass./Central Catholic) and Henry Hollinshead (Raleigh, N.C./Green Hope) took second and third, respectively, in both the 100- and 200-yard backstroke. Jacob Kohlhoff (Tega Clay, N.C./Fort Mill) also finished second in the 100-yard freestyle.

In the diving events, Griffin Edmonds (Norwalk, Conn./New Canaan) placed second in both the 1- and 3-meter events, while Matthew Werner (Elkins Park, Pa./Cheltenham) and Jonathan Furlong (Londonderry, N.H./The Derryfield School) took third and fourth, respectively, in 3-meter dive.

The Hoyas will be back in action for their final regular season meet of the year, when they take on BIG EAST opponents Seton Hall and Providence in a neutral-site meet on Saturday, Feb. 3. The tri-meet will take place at the Berkeley Aquatic Club in New Providence, New Jersey.
