Drew teDuits Rising Backstroke Star, Video Interview

2013 Charlotte Ultraswim, Men’s 100 Backstroke as reported by SwimSwam staff:

Ryan Murphy had the lead at the 50 meter mark turning in a time of 26.24, David Plummer and Andrew teDuits both caught Murphy in what was an incredible finish, with only six one-hundredths of a second separating the three men. teDuits took the event in a time of 54.43, Plummer finished second in a time of 54.45 with Murphy finishing in third posting a time of 54.49.

2013 Charlotte Ultraswim, Men’s 200 Backstroke as reported by Morgan Priestley:

The top seed in the men’s race is NCAA champion Drew teDuits of Wisconsin (1:59.59).  The backstroke specialist, who is a Madison local from Edgewood High, had a breakthrough short course season, and with a best time this morning, he’s showing he can contend long course, too. That swim is a lifetime best for him – thought not by much, remember that it’s early May.

Although TeDuits has a massive lead on the field headed into tonight, he is scratching finals (to return to school to take exams).

Good luck to him. He comes across as being very unassuming, and so you just really want him to do well. There are now quite a few of them that I want to well in the backstroke at the trials. Those races will be nail biting…

He is one of the fantastic revelations from the Charlotte Grand Prix ! Great talent .
54.43 on 100 back while he seems not to train in long course often is just incredible . 100 back at trials will be monstruous and very interesting to follow . Us has deep depth on both 100 and 200 backstroke events .
