David Dixon of Richmond, Virginia has verbally committed to swim for West Virginia University beginning in the fall of 2017. “I chose WVU in part because it’s where I was born, and it’s the school both of my parents went to. The scenery of the campus is gorgeous up in the mountains, and I got along well with the coaches and other swimmers.”
Dixon swims year-round for NOVA of Virginia Aquatics. He’s a true IMer who excels at every stroke, and in every distance. He has Juniors cuts or better in 100/200 breast, 100/200 fly, and 200/400 IM. In 2013, Dixon was a member of the NOVA quartet that broke the boys’ 13-14 national age group record in the 800 free relay.
Dixon had a stellar long course season this past summer. He went best times in the 50/100/200m breast, 50/100m fly, and 200/400m IM at the NCSA Summer Swimming Championships. He finished second in the 200m fly, and was an A finalist in the 50/100/200m breast, 100m fly, and 200m IM; he was a consolation finalist in the 50m back, 50m fly, and 400m IM.
His best short course times are:
- 400 IM – 3:57.86
- 200 IM – 1:50.89
- 200 breast – 2:01.65
- 100 breast – 56.71
- 200 fly – 1:46.47
- 100 fly – 49.01
Also joining the Mountaineers’ class of 2021 are verbal commits Max Gustafson and Philip Kay.

wow! good luck in wvu!
I see this kid hitting 1:43 in 200 fly his freshman year. Lots of potential and natural talent. Easily one of the better 200 flyers we’ll see out of this class. Scoring potential at NCAAs is a high probability for him in his first year. Great steal by the Mountaineers.
Great job David!
