Dizotti Downs Own Record In History-Making Brazilian 1500 Free Appearance

2022 FINA WORLD AQUATICS CHAMPIONSHIPS

Although she finished off the podium in the women’s 1500m freestyle final tonight at the 2022 World Championships, Beatriz Dizotti posted a new lifetime best and Brazilian national record en route to sixth place.

After establishing herself as the sixth seed out of the heats with a time of 16:08.35, 22-year-old Dizotti managed to shave just over 3 seconds off of that performance to remain in the same position after tonight’s final.

Prior to these World Championships, the Brazilian’s own lifetime best in this 1500m free rested at the 16:22.07 she produced at her nation’s 2022 Olympic Trials. There in Tokyo, Dizotti didn’t fare as well, ultimately placing 24th in 16:29.37.

As such, entering this competition Dizotti had never been under the 16:20 threshold in this grueling event but managed to do so twice while competing here in Budapest.

Splits for Dizotti’s time tonight are below:

It’s worth noting that her teammate Viviane Youngblut was also in this evening’s race, with the pair representing the first time two Brazilian women have made a World Championships final. Youngblut touched in 16:13.89 for 7th place.

Winning the 1500m was American Katie Ledecky (15:30.15), with her squadmate Katie Grimes snagging silver (15:44.89). Wrangling up bronze was Australia’s Lani Pallister who scored a mark of 15:48.96.
