Distance Freestyler Haven Hinkle Commits to Colorado Mesa

Fitter and Faster Swim Camps is the proud sponsor of SwimSwam’s College Recruiting Channel and all commitment news. For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.

Haven Hinkle from St. Augustine, Florida has announced her commitment to swim and study at Division II Colorado Mesa University beginning in the 2022-2023 school year.

“I’m excited to announce my verbal commitment to further my athletic and academic career at Colorado Mesa University! I am soo grateful for my family, friends, teammates and coaches for getting me to this point. I can’t wait to be apart of such a great team and university! GO MAVS!”

Hinkle swims for St. Augustine Swim Team. She achieved numerous best times back in March at the Florida Senior Spring Championships. Those times included the 500 (5:02.44), 1000 (10:23.67), and 1650 (17:19.02) freestyles as well as the 200 butterfly (2:08.92). Her 500 freestyle time also earned her first Futures cut.

She continued her success into the summer and earned multiple long course best times at Plantation Sectionals. There she earned best times in the 400 (4:34.25), 800 (9:27.00), and 1500 (17:56.89) freestyles as well as the 200 butterfly (2:29.85).

In addition to her success in the pool, she also has success as an open water swimmer. She has competed for Florida Swimming at both the 2020 and 2021 Open Water Southern Zone Championships.

Hinkle began her senior year this fall at Nease High School in Ponte Vedra Beach, FL.

Her best short course yards times are:

  • 200 freestyle: 1:54.63
  • 500 freestyle: 5:02.44
  • 1000 freestyle: 10:23.67
  • 1650 freestyle: 17:19.02
  • 200 butterfly: 2:08.92

Colorado Mesa University is a public university located in Grand Junction, Colorado. The school is a member of the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference.

The team captured the conference title at the 2021 Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Championships. Based on her best times, Hinkle has the potential to add to the team’s points as her times would have won the 500, 1000, and 1650 freestyles.

She also has the potential to make an impact in the school’s top-10 all-time as her best times would place her third in the 1650 freestyle, eighth in the 200 butterfly, ninth in the 1000 freestyle, and tenth in the 500 freestyle.

Hinkle will arrive on campus next fall as a member of the class of 2026 along with Tori Bartusiak, Maddi Moran, and Julia Sperber
