Cincinnati Aquatic Club’s Devin Landstra is headed a short distance northeast next year to swim at The Ohio State University. Landstra was a 3rd-place finisher in the 50 free at the Ohio State High School Division 2 (small school) Championships last year for Indian Hill. She also finaled in the 100 backstroke, finishing 6th, and will most likely find her place as a sprint freestyler and backstroker for the Buckeyes.
I chose the Ohio state university because I know I can succeed there both in and out of the water. I loved the coaches and the team, I’m so excited to be a buckeye!
Landstra’s two best races are 50s (freestyle and backstroke), with the 100 yard races as secondary events:
- 50 freestyle: 23.64
- 50 backstroke: 26.78
- 100 freestlye: 52.01
- 100 backstroke: 56.98
- 100 freestyle (LCM): 58.68
- 100 backstroke (LCM): 1:05.77
Landstra has the size (5’11) that coaches look for, especially in sprint freestyle/backstroke prospects. In addition, she has swum better in long course, showing that she is a good pure swimmer that could really benefit from some fine tuning in starts, turns and breakouts. Although Landstra has a ways to go to score individually in the B1G conference, Ohio State has enough lane space in the McCorkle Aquatics Pavilion to carry a big roster and make room for an in-state prospect with big upside. Landstra’s personal bests are nearly identical to recent commit Kaylee Witkiewicz, another swimmer from Ohio, indicating that Bill Dorenkott and his staff are working to get some local sprint depth in the early part of this recruiting season.
