DeLoof, Matthews honored with women’s Big Ten weekly awards

Michigan sophomore Ali DeLoof and Purdue senior Casey Matthews won Big Ten Swimmer and Diver of the week awards for their performances in road wins over the week of January 7.

DeLoof won four races for the Lady Wolverines at the Orange Bowl Classic in Key Largo Florida, setting three new meet records. She won the 50 backstroke, 200 medley relay and 200 free relay in meet records and was just a tenth off her fourth meet mark in the 50 free. She helped the Michigan women win the short-course meters Orange Bowl Classic for the second time in as many Michigan appearances. DeLoof has won this award two other times in her career.

Matthews won the 1-meter diving event at Purdue’s dual meet with the University of Hawaii in Honolulu. Matthews scored 321.20 to give Purdue the event win, helping build momentum for the Boilermakers’ 146-91 victory over Hawaii in the midst of their training trip on the island of Oahu. This is Matthews’ fourth Diver of the Week award.

Purdue also took home the Freshman of the Week award. Meagan Lim won the 200 IM against Hawaii and contributed to the winning 200 medley relay. This is her first Big Ten weekly award.
